There are 172 registered entries and 246 registered participants, judges, and stewards.
As of 11:32 AM, there are 149 received and processed entries (this number will update as entries are picked up from drop-off locations and organized for judging).
Organized by the GRiST Homebrew Club of Arlington, VA, this is a registered BJCP/AHA competition to benefit John Lyon VFW Post 3150.
The competition is limited to 220 paid entries (210 for the competition and 10 for the John Lyon Award). Registration will close on the earlier of reaching the 220 paid entry cap or October 9, 2019 at 9:00 p.m.
The competition is open to all amateur beer makers 21 years of age and older at the time of the competition. All entries must have been brewed at home on a non-commercial system.
To register for the John Lyon Award (best beer brewed by a veteran, an active duty service member, or a dependent of a veteran or active duty service member) please complete this form.
Entries will be judged in accordance with the 2015 BJCP Beer Style Guidelines, including the provisional styles listed here (17A. British Strong Ale: Burton Ale, 21B. Specialty IPA: New England IPA, X4. Catharina Sour, and X5. New Zealand Pilsner). Please note that New England IPAs and Brut IPAs should be entered in category 21B. Specialty IPA.
Meads and ciders will not be accepted for this competition.
The entry deadline is October 9, 2019 at 9:00 p.m. Your beer is not officially entered until payment for entries has been received.
Brewers are limited to three entries total. Brewers may enter more than one entry in each BJCP category but may only enter each subcategory once.
Each entry shall consist of two 10-12-oz. brown glass, crown capped bottles, free of commercial labels, raised marks or lettering, or other identifying markings except the official bottle label. Bottles with raised lettering are allowed, but highly discouraged. Grolsch/Flip Tops/22 oz. bombers or cans are not acceptable.
Enclose each of your bottle labels in a small zip-top bag before attaching to their respective bottles. This way it makes it possible for the organizer to identify specifically which entry has broken if there is damage during shipment. No tape or glue.
The competition organizers reserve the right to combine styles and categories for judging purposes and to structure award categories as they see fit. All possible effort will be made to combine similar styles. All entries will be judged according to the BJCP categories in which they were entered.
The competition organizers are not responsible for miscategorized entries, mailed entries that are not received by the entry deadline, or entries that arrived damaged.
The greatest of care will be given to the entries prior to the competition, though we cannot guarantee against harm or damage. Any damage caused by the competition will be handled on an individual basis. Our primary goal will be to obtain a replacement for the damaged entry. However, if the entrant is unable to provide an additional entry then a refund will be issued.
Bottles will not be returned to entrants.
Competition results will be posted on this website not later than 11:00 p.m. on October 19, 2019.
